We hear it every week: “My lenses got scratched so fast.” Then we see the glasses being wiped on a T-shirt. Fabric picks up dust, and dust is what scratches lenses and their coatings.
The one-minute routine
- Rinse the lenses under lukewarm running water to wash off dust.
- Use a drop of lens cleaner, or a little mild dish soap without lotion.
- Gently rub both sides with your fingertips, then rinse again.
- Dry with a clean microfibre cloth. Wash the cloth every few days.
Avoid these
- Shirts, tissues and paper napkins
- Hot water, or leaving glasses on a car dashboard in the sun
- Putting glasses lens-down on a table
- Keeping them loose in a bag without a case
